Freedom to be yourself

Freedom to Be Yourself is the first large-scale abstract painting I created earlier this year.It marks a turning point—not just in my work, but in who I am becoming.

The past couple of years have been deeply healing for me. They’ve been full of learning, unlearning, and slowly peeling back layers I didn’t even realize I was carrying. In that time, I learned so much about myself—and just as much about the kind of art I truly wanted to create.

Abstract painting with vibrant colors, including blue, yellow, red, and green. Paint splatters and brushstrokes create a lively, chaotic scene.

Abstract painting has become one of my favorite ways to work. It’s freeing in a way nothing else is. There are no rules to follow, no expectations to meet, no need to explain every mark. It allows me to move intuitively, emotionally, and honestly. It gives me space to feel.

When I began this painting, I knew I wanted to work large. I wanted the canvas to hold the weight of the healing I’ve been doing. I wanted room to move, to breathe, to let go. Freedom to Be Yourself became a place where I could show up fully—without shrinking, without hiding.

This painting represents me finding myself again.

It was created during a time when I allowed myself to be seen. Not polished. Not perfected. Just real. It’s the beginning of loving myself in a way I never had before. Of stepping into the person I always hoped I could be—the person I wanted to be when I was a little girl.

There’s grief in that realization, but there’s also tenderness. Compassion. Hope.

Freedom to Be Yourself isn’t just about my journey—it’s for anyone who is finding themselves again. For anyone who has lost parts of who they are along the way. For anyone learning that it’s okay to wander, to pause, to start over.

It’s okay to lose yourself. It’s okay to come back to yourself. No matter how long it takes.

This painting is a reminder that becoming yourself is not a straight line—it’s a return. And every return is worth honoring.
