From Chaos to Color: How Painting Helped Me Heal

For a long time, my world felt loud. Not just with sound, but with emotion. The noise of daily life...motherhood, dishes, the weight of other people’s needs...was constant. Add to that the quiet ache of past trauma and the pressure to keep it all together, and I often felt like I was unraveling inside while smiling on the outside.

But in a small, messy corner of my basement, what I now lovingly call my sanctuary of color...something began to shift.

I started painting not because I thought I was an artist, but because I needed a way to breathe. I needed somewhere to put the emotions I didn’t yet have words for. I wasn’t trying to make anything perfect. I was just trying to make something that reflected how I felt. The pain. The softness. The hope that still existed under the surface.


Over time, that corner became a portal back to myself. With every brushstroke, I started to feel again. To remember who I was before I learned to numb everything. Before I got so used to surviving that I forgot what it felt like to simply be.

Painting gave me space to process my past without needing to explain it. It gave me a safe way to reclaim my story, one layer at a time.


Now, I create with purpose. My paintings are rooted in healing. They’re born from the beauty I’ve found on the other side of chaos...from choosing sobriety, embracing motherhood, and learning how to love the quiet parts of my life.
