Little Adventures: A Cherished Memory Captured in Art

Updated: Jul 7

There’s a round canvas on my wall right now. It’s full of soft greens and playful textures. This canvas holds one of my favorite memories—Little Adventures.

Circular painting of a vibrant, abstract water scene with reflections and colorful flowers. Bright blues, greens, and warm gold hues.

The Inspiration Behind the Painting

This original oil painting was inspired by a magical moment I shared with my 4-year-old at the Tacoma Nature Center. We wandered through the forested trails until we stumbled upon a wooden bridge. It overlooked a pond full of lily pads, turtles, and ducks. My son’s eyes lit up at the sight. We took pictures and lingered. In that moment, I knew I wanted to capture our experience in paint.

Why Round Canvases?

Painting on a round canvas always feels whimsical to me. It softens the edges of the story. It makes the memory feel like a treasure—tucked away and glowing from the inside. That’s what this painting became: a gentle, impressionist reflection of presence, motherhood, and the tiny adventures that make up a life.

Motherhood in a Fast-Paced World

As a mother of two boys, life is rarely still. My oldest is now 13 years old. When we lived in Los Angeles, I took him everywhere. We explored museums, the LA Arboretum, and enjoyed beach days and bustling city outings. Now, in the quiet of Washington, I get to explore something different with my youngest. Together, we discover mossy trails, hidden ponds, and the calming beauty of the forest.

The Importance of Presence

Being a present mother is something I work toward every day. I strive to be the kind of parent I didn’t have. I want to be there, to listen, and to show up. I say yes to muddy shoes, long walks, and bug hunts. This painting isn’t just about nature; it's about connection. It emphasizes the importance of unplugging and stepping outside. It’s about showing your children the world in real time—not just through screens.

Little Adventures serves as a reminder to be here now. It captures the beauty in everyday moments. For those who understand the real magic lives in between all the noise—in the soft steps on a trail and the laughter of a child echoing through the trees.

Capturing Everyday Magic

Art has a unique way of encapsulating fleeting moments. This painting brings forth memories I want to hold close. Every brush stroke tells a story of adventure and exploration. It transports me back to that special day at the pond. The vibrant colors reflect the joy and beauty experienced in those little moments.

Encouraging Shared Experiences

In a world dominated by technology, it’s crucial to encourage shared experiences. Adventure awaits right outside our doors. Whether it is taking a walk in the park or simply enjoying a quiet moment together, these experiences form the foundation of our children's memories.

Let’s give our children the gift of presence. Let’s show them the beauty of our surroundings. Let’s teach them the value of making connections with nature and with each other.

Conclusion: A Lasting Reminder

Little Adventures isn't just a painting; it represents a philosophy. It speaks to those who want to remember the beauty in everyday happenings. It captures the essence of deliberate parenting and cherishing shared experiences.

By embracing moments filled with laughter, stillness, and connection, we create a tapestry of memories. The journey of motherhood is diverse and often unpredictable. This painting immortalizes a single moment in time, reminding us that happiness is often found in the smallest adventures.

This love letter to motherhood will forever remind me of the joy in nature, the importance of presence, and the bond between parent and child. For more about this piece, check out Little Adventures.
