The Beauty of the Pacific Northwest in Abstract Form

There’s something sacred about the Pacific Northwest — the misty mornings, moss-covered forests, and wild coastal light that turns everything gold for just a moment before fading into violet dusk. I’ve built my art around those fleeting glimmers. Each brushstroke becomes a way to translate that natural magic into emotion — the quiet awe you feel standing before the sea, the weight of the rain, the deep breath of evergreen air.

My abstract impressionist paintings aren’t just landscapes; they’re emotional reflections of what it feels like to live in this part of the world. Whether I’m painting the shoreline of Steilacoom, the tide pools of the Puget Sound, or the layered blues of a stormy sky, each canvas becomes a meditation on freedom, healing, and belonging.
Capturing Nature’s Energy Through Texture and Color
In my process, I use palette knives, brushes, and textured pastes to build movement and light into each piece. The Pacific Northwest isn’t flat or predictable — it shifts and breathes — and I want my paintings to do the same. Thick layers of teal and mossy green collide with streaks of pink and gold, echoing the way light filters through fog or reflects on wet sand after rain.
Texture is my way of honoring the land — the rugged cliffs, the tangled roots, the way ocean waves crash with both violence and grace. Each layer becomes part of a story, just as the forest floor holds decades of fallen leaves and new growth.
Abstract Art as a Form of Connection
Living and painting in Washington has taught me that nature mirrors emotion. The same way storms pass and skies clear, our own healing comes in cycles. My work is meant to hold that truth — to remind collectors, dreamers, and art lovers that beauty doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful.
Collectors often tell me that my paintings feel alive, that they bring a sense of calm or nostalgia into their home. That’s the greatest compliment an artist can receive — knowing that the emotion I poured into a canvas continues to ripple outward.
From Studio to Sea: My Artistic Sanctuary
Most of my paintings begin in my small, colorful studio — a little corner of my basement I call my “sanctuary of color.” From there, ideas spill out like waves. I’ll spend hours layering shades of blue, then take a walk along the water to watch the light shift and decide what the piece still needs. Every painting becomes part of that rhythm — between solitude and connection, art and nature, stillness and motion.
