The story behind my abstract painting "To be woman"
As a young girl I had a very hard time loving myself. A very hard time being around boys..fitting in. I was always told to smile more because my face looked angry all the time. I was constantly trying my best to look good and dress a certain way to impress anyone who would look. And even in my young adult life i was always dieting, always worried about the way I looked.

I often let men take advantage of me to feel worthy, hoping they would love me for all that I did for them.Drowning myself in alchol because I wasnt confident enough to just be me. To love me.
This painting I did earlier last year, It was a more feminine abstract painting about girlhood, and the struggles of being a woman. We are told to be skinny, but not too skinny. Afraid to age but to embrace aging. To smile more because were prettier that way. Afraid to walk alone at night because men cant control their hormones.
And yet I now at the age of 38, I embrace all my flaws. Im sober and clear headed. I love my body and I embrace my age in all of its beauty. This painting is for the woman reclaiming her life and loving herself now more than ever.
